This is a pretty basic book. What I will say about it, having the book gives you a chance to actually perform some of these survival skills. The chapters are small and the tips are mostly useful. Being able to do some of these tasks will prepare you for if and when the need arises that you need survival skills. If you are an hiker, some ideas will defiantly save your life such as drinking from a bandana or scarf. The bicycle tube sling shot is pretty unique. This is a good way to sit down with your kids and teach them how to make things and also learn about home protection if the power grid ever went down. The lip balm ideas are also great for every day use such as lubricating a zipper. Who hasn’t had a stuck zipper on a winter jacket? How about using a bottle cap for a pulley? This book is very informative for many idea’s and the fact if you sit down and do these hacks with your kids or friends, you learn a lot. Yes, some is very basic but its always good to go over the basics. I highly recommend this book and I even recommend even more you actually do these hacks. This is knowledge that will not go to waste,

First, I will admit I am a big fan of Creek Stewart and all of his books. Survival Hacks is one, if not the best, of Creek’s books to date. The book is logically divided into various sections of survival topics. Many of Creek’s topics delightfully begins with how and when he first learned the tip, or some beneficial background information. The tips listed are “real world” instructional information, and not some far fetched MacGyver projects that us mere mortals could never duplicate. There are many topic related drawings, I would prefer photographs, but the cost of the book would have been doubled or tripled. There are 9 full page photos showing examples of 7 EDC, (Every Day Carry), kits that are very helpful. The kit contents are listed with the reasons they are important. If you are new to the world of prepping/survival, or have been studying the topic for years, this book is a must have for your reference books. Thanks for reading this far. This is my first review of anything ever and I hope you find it helpful.

Whether you are a full blown prepper, a curious person or just want to impress the pants off of your partner on that secluded camping trip, this is a good book to learn from.I bought mine out of curiosity, there is NO SUCH THING as too little information. I am VERY impressed with the scope, delivery and content of the book. Some info I will never use, some seems a bit dubious to me.Making an ice ball to magnify the Sun’s rays to start a fire? The author says he has tried them, so until I do, I will have to trust. But, that is also the coolest part of the book, he (the author) WANTS you to try them and use what you can and file the rest away for later.I liked this so much, I bought one for my buddy, he had it two weeks and someone stole/ borrowed it from him. Two weeks later is was stolen/ borrowed again! I think my friend had to track it down thru something like “The Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon” game.It is cheap, buy a couple of copies so you don’t lose yours!Ok, some other guys do have a few points to make about this not being a ‘true survival’ book. Yes the author does expect a bit of scrounging work, but I don’t think the intent is ‘pure survival.’ It is just hacks; camping hacks, heating hacks, shoe hacks, etc. . .IF you want something that you can walk into the woods with, naked, afraid and just a knife. Then I would recommend the Bushcraft series. More good info there too.

Thought as a long time 20 year consultant on Preparedness and Survival I had learned enough!WRONG!As the old saying goes: NEVER STOP LEARNING!Creek has opened my eyes to numerous McGyver styled hacks that I plan to experiment with and create.I had never considered that PALLETS could be an excellent tent!I pulled off the poptop on a can and put it aside for doing the tent ties!

As someone that has a prepper page on Facebook I really enjoyed this book. My favorite part of this book is EDC Kits in the back, they give you multiple ways and so many ideas on how to carry gear everyday. Some think it is annoying or to hard to carry some basic items just in case this book shows you it is not. But the best part is how it shows you that everyday items can be used to help you when things go wrong even if it isn’t a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI event. I plan on doing a lot of these for practice with my wife and kids, and I will be sharing how it goes on the Barrett Ready page on Facebook. Thanks, Creek can’t wait for you to make this an app like the willow haven outdoors daily tip app or even a ebook. Oh and while I am doing a Creek wish list someone pick up Fat Guys in the woods and come out with a dvd seasons.

His best book so far. Creek is an excellent writer who knows his subject from first hand experience & who can organize his information logically & express it succinctly with clarity. He teaches you to grasp the principles behind the methods so that you will be prepared to adapt them to the varied predicaments you may encounter. This book contains the information presented in his prior book without the delightful interweaving of the Hunger Games examples. It does, however, contain valuable new content. I intend to keep it in my Evac Bag (every year we seem to face real possibilities of needing one due to local fires, & Creek’s book on building a Bug of Bag has been invaluable in helping me to assemble what I may need) until I am certain & have assimilated it’s contents. There are other excellent good survival authors, but Creek is outstanding among them IMHO.

I love little inventions and I especially love it when the ingenuity used is with items I most likely already have. This book is all of that! The hacks are usually very simple and very cheap! They are fun and they are really cool too! Recently threw an outdoor dinner party for my stepson. Used 2 of these leftover plastic beef jerky containers (12 inches tall) with our iphones to set the table. Threw some pine cones around it, and it was so fancy, everyone (all 4 of us, socially distanced of course) couldn’t get over how pretty the table setting was. I guess my point is I use hacks in here around the house, not just for survival. My stepfather fell in love with my first copy when I was visiting them, so I gave him mine and ordered another because I did not want to be without this book! LOVE IT! Thank you to the author and please, if you do another one, add some photos please! 🙂

Would spend a little more for a book with real pictures showing the topic at hand. The book has weak drawn images that doesn’t help in understand what the writer is building or making. If i’m making something I like to see a picture as I can’t see what is in the head of the writer. For me anywhys the book has good things in it with a lot more filler silly tips as well. Beginner book, but it is ok.

This is a great book. Although a lot of thlkoooings inside I’ve knownk of or seen on YouTube, there was so much that OoI had never even thought about. If your into ocrafty survival tricks or just want to surpriselkk your friends this is the book for you. You will learn a lot but you must remember that these are skills and some of these tips takes practice. A lot of these can be used everyday and not just in a survival situation. I highly recommend this book especially to those first getting into prepping or everyday survival. I have done quite a few of these tips with my kids as a fun quirky learning project.
