Berbere Spice Blend 4 oz | Authentic Ethiopian Hand-blended Spice – by Spicy World : Grocery & Gourmet Food

(10 customer reviews)

❤️️Authentic 14 Spice Blend – (unlike many others who use only 6-7 spices to keep costs down). Our berbere is hand blended right here in the USA with cayenne pepper, paprika, red pepper flakes, fenugreek, clove, ginger, turmeric, cardamom, black pepper, cumin, sea salt, coriander, cinnamon, and allspice.

❤️️ Ethiopian Seasoning – This spice originates from the Eastern African country of Ethiopia and is a major culinary foundation for their cuisines. The mix is considered a cupboard mix due to the variety of spices mixed to make this blend.

❤️️ Distinct Flavor – Berbere has a distinctive flavor as it has a large number of spices getting mixed together. This tends to be a hot mix as we add red pepper and chili to the blend so add with caution to foods based on spice tolerance.

❤️️ Key Uses – Berbere Spice Mix is a staple spice in almost all Ethiopian dishes, but we recommend trying with Doro Wat (Ethiopian Chicken) and Spinach and Egg Shakshuka. It can also be used as a paste to be mixed with foods easily.

❤️️ Freshly Hand Blended in the USA – This inhouse spice is freshly hand-blended before getting shipped to you to maintain the freshness of each ingredient making our Berbere an elevated quality.

I love this spice and could always find it in my grocery store but lately, not so much. So I ordered on line. This is a great spice for meats, chili, soups, etc. Be forewarned, though, this brand is VERY spicy. It is much more spicy than the “store bought” (apparently inauthentic) brands so a little goes a long way. It is a great addition to your spice rack.

I like this spice blend. It’s potent and delicious, and smells amazing. Much nicer than some of the cheap ones you find in the grocery store.

Tasted like the spice I get at authentic Ethiopian restaurants. That said, if it were more expensive, it would get fewer stars! My favorite berbere is 2.99 for one ounce. This price is excellent! If it were 2.99 an ounce I would not buy it! I add some extra fenugreek and ginger to it to give it a fuller flavor. It is hot, but that’s how it’s supposed to be!

This spice smells so amazing and tastes so good. It’s spicy though–so be careful about how much you put in. I use it in stir fries all the time along with garlic and ginger.

I bought this berbere spice to make Ethiopian Chicken Stew, as I wanted to make it as authentic as possible. The ingredients in this are all great, but there are only 14 of them, when the actual homemade spice blend has 16. One of the two, which was said to be important was a bird pepper, which is actually a Thai Chili Pepper, which has been dried and crushed. So I used the recommended amount of Berbere, which for this recipe of 2 pounds of Chicken and 2 pounds of Onion; was 1/2 cup of the spice. I also put in 1/4 teaspoon of the Thai Chili Pepper. WARNING _ DANGER- WARNING… I love Spicy hot food. I even make my own hot sauces. I have a collection of over 300 hot sauces, so I am not a simpleton, when it comes to hot food. But this was INSANE!!! Perhaps because of the combination of the Berbere and the Thai Chili; or perhaps both of those in addition to the 2 pounds of onions ( which was actually 2 1/2 lbs, as was the chicken) or the 11 cloves of garlic.IN ANY CASE… The spice is GREAT, but it is REALLY POTENT!!, Yes, I would buy it again for a real authentic taste.
