Friend and I used these tablets for a Summer camping trip to Yosemite. We used the tablets in both Camelbak bladders and regular water bottles, and it worked great in both. We used 4 purification tablets for a 2 gallon Camelbak, and 2 tablets for a 24oz water bottle, and that seemed to work. Using one or two of the PA tablets completely neutralized the iodine taste of the purifying tablets, so the water tasted just like it would fresh out of the river. It does take about 30 minutes for the purification to work, and then another 10-15 for the PA tablets to remove the taste, so plan your water refills around a break or lunch/dinner time. Also be aware that the purification tablets WILL leave yellow stains on bladders and water bottles. The stains appear to be only cosmetic, we did not notice any strange taste or erosion of our bladders where the stains were.Great product, highly recommend for a cheap, lightweight, and effective water purification system on your next trip.

As I have not used this product yet, I did not rate it on flavor. Use of this product to purify your water for drinking is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to be assured thatyou are providing yourself and your family with safe drinking water in an emergency. We live in uncertain times when anatural disaster can interupt the municipal water service plus when camping or hiking you can never be sure of the safety of water in campgrounds or on the trails. With a bottle of these purification tablets in your backpack you won’t have to worry about the safety of your water again. The product came well packed with instructions on how to use the tablets. Don’t leave home without them.

So, I was probably the only one that didn’t realize this, having never purchased water purification tablets. I thought I was getting two bottles worth of water purification tablets. Each bottle actually contains one part of the two part process of purifying water.I don’t know how well they work. I’m hiding them away for the zombie apocalypse.

A great product, it is useful and very simple to use. For those who travel to less develop countries, it is a “must have item” Protect yourself, take care of your family, and be careful with non potable water. This product will help you to stay healthy and alive. The purchase and delivery process was very fast. Amazon.com web page in intuitive and simple to use. The sales price is competitive and reasonable. I live in a place very distant to the U.S., and this product arrive, in a very good shape, and very fast.

Bought this product for my four day hike to the Na Pali Coast on Kauai, HI. Though we came along multiple water sources that the locals said were “ok” to drink from without boiling, I chose to purify the water just in case. I was filling multiple Nalgene bottles (32oz) and I dropped two tablets in each bottle, also had a hydration bladder (roughly 90 to 100 oz) and I would drop 5 tablets in it to purify. 30 minutes later, potable water! This was a hell of a lot quicker than the tablets my friend had; he would have to wait FOUR hours for the water purification tablets to work on the same quantity of water! I never used the second bottle included in this package, to make the water “taste better.” There is a slight iodine taste and brown color to the water after purifying it, but I honestly did not mind nor did I care. I used these tablets for four days, but at the rate I was using these tablets, I am guessing I had a solid six to eight day supply.I was very impressed with this product overall and will purchase more in the future for upcoming hikes!

I took these purification tablets to Sumatra, Indonesia. The place we were staying gave us bottled water but I wanted extra since it was so hot. I filled up my water bottle with tap water and placed the purification tablets in for 30 mins, then the neutralizing tablets. I didn’t get sick from drinking the water I purified and there was no residual iodine taste.

… dipping your head into a cold mountain stream and taking a long refreshing drink is an experience that has basically vanished from the wilderness areas of America. With the increased use of the wilderness there has also been an increase in the amount of bacteriological contamination of backcountry water supplies. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that 90 percent of the world’s water is contaminated in some way.Without getting too much into basic chemistry, there are two methods for water purification tablets: Iodine and chlorine. Iodine is the arguably more effective method, but it leaves an iodine taste. It is suggested the taste may determine how much or how little one drinks. So, how do you deal with it? In this case, Potable Aqua includes a second bottle with tablets you can add to remove the taste, OR, simply adding vitamin C (i.e. Tang), or adding a pinch of salt per quart, adding flavorings (e.g., lemonade mix, etc.) or you can also pour it back and forth between containers (again, AFTER it has been adequately treated). The other option is chlorine, Chlorine should be used for persons with iodine allergies or restrictions like persons with thyroid problems, are on lithium, are allergic to shellfish (they may also be allergic to iodine), women over fifty and pregnant women should consult their physician prior to using iodine for purification. Be aware that iodine is light sensitive and must always be stored in a dark bottle, once opened, it may need to be used within a certain time. The effectiveness of all chemical treatment of water is related to the temperature, pH level, and clarity of the water. Cloudy water often requires higher concentrations of chemical to disinfect. If the water is cloudy, strain it, add the tablets and swish it around. Splash some water with the chemical onto the lid and the threads of the water bottle so all water areas are treated. The water should sit for at least 30 minutes. The colder the water, the less effective the chemical, it works best if the water is over 68F/21C, if the water temperature is below 40F/4C, double the treatment time before drinking. Finally, iodine and chlorine will NOT work on toxic water (water that has dissolved chemicals or solids like salt). In that case, it MAY be safe/safer to add the use of absorbent filters (i.e. with charcoal), but the BEST advice is to simply NOT use toxic water!I always say you should have at least TWO options for water, fire and shelter. Here, tablets are one, the other is a filter like Sawyer Products SP128 Mini Water Filter (It has the distinction of being able to be used almost perpetually by simply backwashing it!). But the best method is boiling, some say you don’t actually have to “boil” water to make it safe, that by the time water actually comes to a boil it is already safe, but I like to see bubbles for my own peace of mind!

There’s no real complaint with this product; I’ve used it during camping and hiking excursions for years upon years, and it does make water bacteriologically and protozoically potable. Even so, I’d recommend filtering your water with sand, rocks, and charcoal first if you have the means as these tablets do not eliminate particulates or chemical pollutants. Not much else needs to be said: follow the directions for using both tablets properly, and you will minimize biological health hazards in the water you intend to drink.

The thing that I like the most about these tablets is that they don’t have an expiration day.I’m not planning on using these tablets anytime soon. They are just there for my emergency kit… so the fact that they don’t have an expiration day is awesome. I also have a sawyer water filter but I wanted to have a back up of my back up. ;)I’m only giving 4 stars because I haven’t try it and I don’t find fare giving 5 stars under this situation.(I am updating to 5 stars after a real field test… after you open them they may expire “sooner” but still it will take forever)I gonna upload some pictures so you see the size of it and how it looks on a cellphone picture ;).I hope this helps somebody.
