My son loved it! Its what he wanted. However, the turn knob, to turn it off and on, and its also the volume button, well its broke. You have to push hard and turn in all directions to turn it off and up etc. Also it does work when u hook it up to a speaker, however you still hear it out of the toy, so it creates a weird echo sound because of this. It works on headphones, however you still hear it out of the toy. So we don’t like that, because when we don’t want to hear it, he can’t just put Headphones on to still play and enjoy. Also I do not think its really worth the price. Should be $10-$20 bucks cheaper.

I have the regular otamatone, so I was super excited to add this big guy to my growing collection of instruments to yell at people with.I love the added features on the otamatone deluxe. It is so much louder and also so much quieter- a good range for when I want to practice in secret and when I want to go all-out for random guests. The only thing I think should be noted is that the mechanism/spring that is used to open its mouth is squeaky and kind of loud.

It fills my heart full. Sounds great and fun to play! The upper octave sounds like a theremin even

I recently saw an Otamaton in a music video (“High Hopes” by Walk Off the Earth). It reminded me somewhat of the Chinese ehru, so I got one (the “Deluxe” model). It is a bit challenging to play because the sound-producing strip is “fretless.” Like a violin or trombone, you have to learn where to stop. No frets or markers to help. But I’m playing with it every day and learning. To answer some questions I had, that no one ever answered, there are three range settings: Low notes, medium notes, and high notes. On each setting, the “neck” covers more than 2 octaves, so playing in any key is easily done. On the higher notes on the “neck,” the half steps are pretty close – closer than the width of my fingers, so I have to slide one finger (or roll it) rather than put another finger down. But that’s not a complaint – just stating a fact.Overall, I give this a good rating. It’s fun to mess with and I think I’ll be able to incorporate it into some of my real musical activities. Oh, and it’s good for annoying your significant other, too 🙂

This is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever bought online, and I absolutely do NOT regret it. These things are practically the modern-day recorder, and they’re absolutely delightful. I’ve also found it’s extremely fun to annoy people with this. The only thing I still don’t get about it is the DC 5V jack – why does it have one? Is it there in case you use rechargeable batteries, or…? A bit useless if not. But still, not a big deal.To anyone who has just bought one and hasn’t gotten it or opened it yet, use a coin to open the battery compartment. That confused me, too.

I had a blast using this silly instrument. I learned to play a couple of songs on it and dress it up with goofy hats.

My 14-year-old son got the small version of the otamatone on a class trip and loved it. He played it often and so did his brother and friends. We saw the larger version and decided to get it. It was a huge hit. The larger size allows more space for your fingers and you can play more notes. It really is just a novelty item but for the amount of time he and others play it (and actually play songs on it!) I think it was worth the price. It has a cheesy sound, kind of like a toy keyboard or digitized voice so it’s kind of funny/cute to hear songs played. You can change the pitch with low-medium-high setting and control the volume. Also there is a DC input and headphone jack.

THIS THING IS MASSIVE HAHAHAHAI recently got the original edition as a birthday gift, and instantly fell in love with it. It is tiny and adorable and fun to mess around with, but then I saw that theres this beast, and I was just like “well if I want to be the very best at annoyance with odd instruments, then I gotta have this”The package took in all four days from ordering it to arrive, and I was surprised by how well packaged it was. There was no way this could be damaged unless it was tossed from the empire state building, and all the objects it could hit in the way down. And size? Dang this thing is huge. I was actually not expecting it to be this thing, but its the size at which I can wear it like a damn saxophone. A beautifully annoying saxophone that belongs in an episode of Spongebob. It hits all the notes perfectly, and has a much better volume slider than its younger version, not to mention an aux jack. Now that, that is going to allow for me to be the true demon of Odd Instrumental AnnoyanceFor the price I’ve paid, I feel I definitely got my money’s worth.

The Otamatone Deluxe is NOT a children’s toy (unless the child is one of those unusual ones who is careful with their toys and their friends). If your child has any remnant of “hulk smash”, ninja-sword slash, caveman bash-type of energy left in them, this is NOT an appropriate gift as they will break it very, very quickly. That said, if you’re reasonably mature and careful, this instrument feels well-made enough to last for years of occasional noodling. The touch-strip is pleasingly responsive and does not require too much pressure to play. Pitch-wise, the note spacing is not linear, but rather wider at the top and tighter at the bottom end of the strip, similar to a stringed instrument. If you have large fingertips, you may have trouble playing in tune near the bottom end of the strip, especially in the mid- and high-range settings.Sounds ugly to many but I love it. Once you learn to play with expression, it is far more tolerable for haters and enjoyable for music geeks and other lovers.I’d love to hack it to add CV pitch output — haven’t broken it down but if it’s the same analogue circuitry as the original, I see no reason it couldn’t be done.

First few days with the otamatone caused people in our office to strengthen their abs from laughing so hard with the derpy sounds it makes, and my general failure to play it competently. I decided to make a rough guide on the side of Tommy to at least give me a reference what notes I’m playing, and now I’m the resident otamatone player, plus one dude in the office that ended up getting aÂ

, and it just causes general mayhem and the occasional virtuoso moment. Overall 5 stars for such a wonderful, hilarious, comedic, devilish, nightmarish, derpish product. If you are trying to decide between the Deluxe and the “Classic” otamatones, if you’re serious about being a professional otamatonist, you’d want the deluxe — easier to play notes, volume control knob, line out, and it’s a giant spermy tadpole musical instrument, what else could you ask for?!
