Let me start by saying these are my first pair of Merrell shoes and so far they are completely awesome! Maybe a month or two ago my father bought a pair of these same shoes the Moab 2 mid cut, he like them a lot and I had my eye on them previously to him purchasing his Merrell shoes. I did not get a chance to see his shoes before I purchased mine, needless to say I was more than satisfied with this purchase. These are probably the lightest hiking boots / shoe owned so far and probably the most comfortable also but I’ve only had them for a short period so time will tell. I am almost 100% positive that they are going to be comfortable in the long run but if anything happens I’ll update it. I would definitely recommend these merrills to anyone looking for a very comfortable lightweight quick dry non-waterproof hiking boot or shoe. These shoes fit the bill to a t they are ultra comfortable extremely lightweight and let’s face it they look awesome too LOL. They do vary in price from time to time I happen to catch mine for $87 which is an awesome deal I have seen them for as much as $208 so my suggestion is if you’re looking at these and you see them go down to $87 buy them at that price they only stay at that price for a day or two. So two thumbs up definitely recommend them awesome comfortable great looking, also get them when they’re on sale for $87.

I bought the Merrill Moab 2 Vent Mid Hiking boot because I felt they would be perfect for hiking across the Grand Canyon. The boots did not really need any breaking in, but I did not know that and I hiked in them almost every day for about 6 weeks while getting myself in shape for the Canyon. The boots loosened enough that I had to lace them fairly tight in order to keep my toes from jamming on long downhill stretches.Just before heading to the Canyon, I replaced the Merrill insoles with aftermarket footbeds and gave them the oven treatment. This worked very well, and the Merrills were remarkably cool, extremely comfortable, slightly supportive for my ankles, and pretty protective on sharp rocky surfaces. I hiked across the canyon rim to rim, and also hiked top to bottom to top with side trips. All combined, with hikes in the Pacific Northwest and Arizona, I now have about 600-800 miles of occasionally very rough terrain in my Moabs, and I consider them my most comfortable boot. They are terrible for wet areas, so I bought a pair of waterproof Merrills that I will review when I get enough experience in them. There are more expensive boots on the market, but I would not trade the Merrills for them when my goal is foot comfort. Overall, I am surprised that I like them so much because I am usually struggling with foot problems. Merrill will be my summer hiking boot until they disappoint me or I find something better. I have boots that cost twice as much, but I just don’t wear them.

Holy cow. No wonder these boots are so popular. For the price, the quality is awesome. Took them on a 24 mile hike through the woods and they were perfect. My feet barely got sore, my ankle had just enough movement to stay loose but still have support, they were light, good looking, stop water well, and the laces never came untied! Way better than my Rockys by far. It was a perfect fit too. Definitely recommend

This is my second pair of these boots and I admit that I love them. I love the Vibram sole that wears better than any other I’ve used. Since wearing these boots, I’ve changed out the insole to a PowerStep insole because I have extremely tender feet. Anyone else may feel that the standard insole would be perfect for themselves. My wife has since switched to these boots and we both love them. I wear my for daily work, walking, hiking as well as riding my bicycle. Simply the best footwear I’ve ever enjoyed!

I can’t tell what Merrell changed with the fit, but these are certainly more comfortable than the last pair I owned 3 years ago. I had been a loyal Merrell user for many years before that, but switched to Solomon light hiking boots when Merrell made some “improvements” that made the boots uncomfortable for me. Now the new Solomons were “improved” and no longer fit well, so gave these a try and am happy with Merrell’s again. Life would be a lot simpler for consumers if the various boot and running shoe companies were more consistent in their fit over time.

I wear these boots daily at work and I am on my feet 6 to 7 hours a day on concrete and these boots are some of the best I have owned. They are lightweight and with the orthotic inserts which were a separate purchase provide comfortable support for my feet. I have tried athletic shoes which were almost the same price, they did not provide any where near the support and comfort that these Merrell Moab 2 provide. Do your feet a favor and get them some Merrell boots or shoes.

Got these for Mount Whitney, honestly I was underprepared and blessed by these boots.Put them on a day before to walk and ensure a good fit, took off after 10 minutes. Next time I wore them was with heavyweight wool socks at 3 in the morning of the hike. These rocked the entire way, others were complaining 6-10 hours in their feet were sore and hurt, these kept them comfortable for the entire hike! We started at 4am ended at 8:30pm full day never did anything other than tighten them up a bit once. I highly recommend these.

I wanted to wait 6 months before reviewing. I walk several miles a day over various terrains including concrete, asphalt, dirt, gravel, etc. I have never been one to spend this much on shoes and have always kept my shoe budget in the 50-60 dollar range. Problem was, my shoes were wearing down every 3 months and I had to get a new pair. A friend recommended these and I bit the bullet and spent the money. I will never go back to cheap shoes. I have had these 6 months and have used them 7 days a week for several miles a day. Yes you can tell they have been used with scuffs and what not, but the tread looks brand new! I mean so signs of wear to the tread! I am amazed. As far as comfort, I am very pleased. Many people said they did not require a break in period. For me it did. These standard arches were a bit much for me and took some getting used to . I bought Merrells thicker insoles and after about a week, felt broken in and I had no complaints. I will never go back and am thoroughly pleased with these shoes.

I had a problem with painful feet after only 5 or so miles of hiking with other shoes/boots. I was looking for more support for my feet, both in cushioning and keeping my toe and pinky from being jammed into the front of a boot on downhills. These Merrells provided me with both. Though the insoles they came with felt comfortable, I opted to get better insoles before hiking. I hiked about 30 miles in them over 3 days…in pretty steep and rough terrain. I tested them in the most demanding conditions. My feet felt pretty great overall after each hike. Best part was that my toes and the balls of my feet were not in pain after any of the hikes. I believe the “Darn Tough” socks helped a lot as well as these boots. The other reason I chose these boots was that appeared to breathe better than boots known for being waterproof. I do a lot of hot weather hiking in the summer on hot dusty trails (Bend/Central, Oregon), and needed more ventilation than water resistance. My feet did not overheat in these boots, even at mile ten…in the high desert.Ankle support is very good in these. I stepped over rocky conditions, and seemed to get good ankle support. The Vibram soles have amazing traction. I went down steep trails that were just dust and small gravel…and these soles gave me great traction…versus other boots I had in the past on the same trails, which were slipping and sliding.Though I stepped in muddy areas, and minor puddles, I didn’t test them out in deeper waters to determine if they were water resistant.I’ve only had them for a short while, so I cannot comment on their durability yet. However, after about 30 miles…they appeared new after some minor cleaning.

The Merrell Men’s Moab 2 Vent Hiking boot could be the perfect boot. This is my third pair. It wears like iron and at the same time there is no weight penalty. The looks are the standard of the industry. The tread pattern and material inspires confidence for long hikes on practically any terrain. I don’t like Goretex or other waterproofing it cooks my feet. These are great. If your feet get wet, keep hiking they will dry shortly because they breathe. I recommend this boot and don’t think that it’s just for the PCT or AT, they’re great casual footwear.
