I think anyone who is interested in this has been tormented by mosquitos, if not swarming gnats and the occasional appalling tick fest. I live in the Southern U.S., and have used bug spray, but hate wearing it on my face, since aside from the horrific smell (seriously, it’s supposed to work on bugs, not people!), I always get it in my eyes when I’m working, and it really stings. But if I don’t wear it, I’m a beacon for insects. This net works really well at keeping away the standard mosquitoes and gnats. It’s like a net bag to wear over your head, with a toggled drawstring at the bottom. I wear it over a baseball cap – so the bill of the cap creates a gap between my face and the net – and tuck the bottom of the net into my t-shirt collar (I don’t use the drawstring – it tends to pop out of my shirt if I do). I have super-sensitive skin, and I do find the net a little scratchy, but I know what it is, so it doesn’t bother me like all those other itches I get when I’m working outside that I’m sure are ants crawling inside my clothes. You also get, with the net, a little bag for storage (you really have to fold that net tightly to fit it in), and a product insert (so rare for Amazon products) with a link for further instructions on care and avoiding insect bites. You can see the density of the weave from the photos. I wear glasses, but regardless, I can see just fine with the net; it’s only occasionally that I think I see something in the corner of my eye that is the net. I don’t think one net alone is dense enough for no-seeums (we don’t have them locally) but when I’ve visited parks where I know they’re a problem, I’ve doubled up the nets, and my visibility is still fine…without any evil bugs up my nose.I still spray my clothes (sigh) to keep ticks and other social bugs off, but this is a great solution for my face. I wish I could say that I’ve put my net away for winter, but the two insects you can rely on to appear for a warm day, regardless of season, are the mosquito and the tick. I’m happy to hear the frustrated whine when I’ve got my “safety net” on. Great alternative to that dreadful spray for my face.

These are perfect. They are roomy enough to fit over a hat and go down far enough to cover your head and neck. They roll up really small and fit in a little carry-case. You can see right through the mesh, even for a vision-dependent activity like birding, and the mesh is fine enough to keep the skeeters away. I’m going to need to order another set, because 2 is a great start, but I want to have one in each car as well as with my hiking stuff and in my purse, because you never know when you’ll be out enjoying nature and the bugs start getting bad! I’d rather look dorky with one of these than have black flies in my mouth or mosquitos in my ear! Most recommended.
