I bought these for an Emergency/Prepper Use! I tried using with dried grass/weeds, then paper, then cotton balls, then pine twigs, and thin wood pieces from “whittling”. All of these materials were easy to start a fire! The Best were pine twigs and wood shavings as simply increasing the size of the wood fuels makes it easy to get a cooking fire going quickly. Nothing better when you are Hungry! These tools are awesome! I would only suggest trying them out before a situation arises when you need to start a fire fast! You will also have faith in your Skills to relax when needed!

These are small and lightweight, but they still work just fine. With a little practice, my 6 year old was able to get great sparks out of one of these. These are a great choice if you need something inexpensive for a youth group, or to put in a car emergency box for “just in case”.

I bought these for my grandsons who are in a program called Trail Life, similar to Boy Scouts, where they learn a variety of life skills. I gave them as stocking gifts, and ironically, I think they were more of a hit than the bigger gifts they got. They were using them to start small fires (with adult supervision) on Christmas day…ha!
